I am now up to part three of the 2001 Space Odyssey. In part one it was about moon watcher being influenced by an extra terrestrial type of computer that taught Moon Watcher how to hunt and think better. In part two with Dr. Floyd finding evidence of extra terrestrial life-forms on the moon. Now that I am at part three of the book it has once aging changed settings and characters. The new focal point of the novel is Captain Bowman. He is aboard the space shuttle Discovery and is set on a four year trip to Saturn. He is aboard the ship with five other crew members. Four of which are hibernating until they set orbit around Saturn. The only other person awake is Captain Poole. Bowman and Poole switch captaining the ship every twelve hours to reduce friction and fighting. So far the only significant thing that has occurred it that they encountered and asteroid that would be described just about the same material and color of the object found on the moon by Dr. Floyd. But this one was floating in an asteroid field out in space. They did not think much of it and did a few tests.
That is where I left off. Captain Bowman and Captain Poole have their own little life’s going on aboard the ship. It is a life of basically solitary confinement. They do not have much privacy due to the small ship but they also don’t have anyone to talk to or socialize with. This could make someone of lesser knowledge go insane. But both captains are two of the smartest astronauts and are 100 percent fit for the job. I think that they will have more trouble than expected getting to Saturn. I have a feeling that they will encounter aliens of some sort seeing as they are the first men to travel this far out in space.
